Dominika Salkova continued her breakout season at the Parma Open with an impressive victory over defending champion Mayar Sherif.
The young Czech star recently climbed to a career high ranking of World No. 117 and is now chasing her second title of the season after capturing the Les Sables d’Olonne title in France earlier this year. Against Sherif, Salkova played with confidence from the opening game and handled the clay court rallies with composure and aggression.
Sherif entered Parma hoping to repeat her strong run from last season after winning the 2025 title, where she defeated Victoria Mboko in the final. However, Salkova proved too sharp in the key moments and was flawless on break point opportunities, converting all 4 of her chances during the match.
Salkova’s powerful baseline game and calm mentality continue to make her one of the rising names on the WTA Tour. She will now face Camila Osorio in the quarterfinals and will need another strong performance if she hopes to advance to the semifinals in Parma.
